Obituary for Cindy Ackerman

Cindy Ackerman, age 59, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, after a brave year-long fight to recover from the effect of several strokes and a heart attack.
Cindy was born and grew up in Princeton, WV. She graduated from West Virginia University - where she also obtained a Masters in Clinical Child Psychology. She then attended Duke University – which lead to her LOVE for Duke Basketball.
Cindy was the Director of Human Resources for Healthcare Staffing Services for the last ten years. Her favorite part of her job were the people she worked with and providing support to the people in the field so their jobs would be a little easier. She wanted them to know that she always had their back.
Cindy was a cheerleader for the troubled, the downtrodden, those in despair, the underdog. She lifted others up, and encouraged all around her to be a better person; to always try and do their best. With her leading the way, you would get through it, whatever “it” was.
Many people who knew Cindy know that her greatest passion was her family – both her immediate and her extended family at work. She was always thinking of ways to make their day. She loved to cook and prepared the most beautiful spreads for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. You would not have left her house hungry! She would always send guests home with a bag of her pepperoni rolls. Her favorite Holiday was Christmas and she loved playing Santa Claus.
Another of her passions was her fur babies. She had a soft spot for rescues. Her “breed of choice” was the Miniature Schnauzer. They were “her kids” and were spoiled rotten. They will surely mourn their
mommy.
Cindy had many other interests, including reading, her favorite author being John Sandford. She had a passion for decorating her home. She would always be on the lookout for something that would be perfect for the design she had in mind.
Cindy’s favorite place to vacation was St Simons Island. She enjoyed long walks on the beach with her husband or relaxing in Neptune park.
She loved working in her yard and spending time at one her favorite spots - her meditative pond. Both her husband and brother assisted in making it “just so”, a quiet spot to reflect on her day.
People who knew Cindy knew that she was O.C.D. – and she wore it like a medal! She made lists for EVERYTHING! It is possible that she actually made lists for her lists!
She loved music – whether it was listening to “her tunes” to listening to her brother play keyboard or going to see her husband play trumpet in the Metro Jazz Club Big Band. Though, he sometimes drove her crazy practicing while watching TV. She was also a “band booster” for her favorite nephew, Doug, and his many musical endeavors.
Cindy will be greatly missed by her family and friends. If you are so inclined, a contribution to the Schnauzer rescue group - https://schnauzerloverescue.net, the American Heart Association, www.heart.org/ or the National Stroke Association, www.stroke.org/ways-give/donate, would be a wonderful tribute to Cindy.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2017 in the Chapel of the Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Buford, GA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00
a.m. prior to the service. Cindy is predeceased by her parents Clinton Douglas and Melba Sue Lilly. She is survived by her husband, Michael Ackerman; Brother, Stephen Lilly (Deanna Lilly), Auburn GA; nephew,
Douglas Lilly (Juli Gamble) of Cary, NC, and her four fur babies…
