James Cunningham Coplin of Alpharetta, Georgia, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009, from complications with leukemia. He was 52. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 19, 1957, he grew up in Athens, Georgia, the youngest of four children of the late John Frederick and Barbara Adams Coplin. At Clarke Central High, he was a member of National Honor Society, Governor’s Honors Math, and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by his peers in the class of 1975. He went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia, obtaining his B.S. in Accounting.  He became a CPA, worked for Grant Thornton, and pursued a career as a CFO and COO. His broad range of interests and financial expertise led him to specialize in growing and expanding entrepreneurial businesses. He was a member of several Christian men’s groups dedicated to integrity and excellence.Jim championed excellence in everything he did. His passions were faith, family and helping people build dynamic lives and businesses. His number one source of pride, however, was his family. One of the most prized years of his life was when he took a professional sabbatical and renewed personal relationships with family and friends, traveling with his wife and children, and taking his parents on a tour of Italy.   Jim loved sports and playing softball in various leagues. He was a dedicated fan of the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, and Tar Heel Basketball. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carroll Rose Coplin, and three daughters; Elizabeth Bentley Coplin, 21, currently attending Vanderbilt University, Catherine Ford (Caty) Coplin, 18, at Rollins College, and Helaine Crawford (Lainey) Coplin, 16, at Alpharetta High School. He is also survived by his three siblings; John Frederick Coplin, Jr. (and wife, Jennifer) of Oxford, NC, Louisa Coplin Menick (and husband, Jon) of Asheville, NC, and Jeannette Winn Coplin of Athens, GA; as well as in-laws Richard and Gloria Rose (Carroll’s parents) of Waverly, TN, Sher Rose Kelly of Maryville, TN, David Rose (and wife Paula) of Waverly, TN, and Jeanne Rose Cousens of Duluth, GA, along with seven nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their love and gratitude for the thousands of prayers given on Jim’s behalf, as well as the many donors who joined in Jim’s fight against leukemia. Services will be held at One Heart Church, 4845 South Old Peachtree Road, Suite 400, Norcross, GA 30071-5709, on Friday morning, December 4:  visitation at 10:00a.m., service at 11:00a.m. Flowers may be sent to Crowell Brothers Funeral Home at 5051 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Norcross GA  30092.
