Obituary for Andrew Caldwell Westafer

Andy Westafer passed away on Saturday, July 6 after a valiant battle with stage 4 colon cancer. He was born on September 1, 1977 in Raleigh, NC. He is survived by his son, Andrew Craig, and his parents, Pam and Pete Westafer. Along with his friends, Andy loved to camp, and his last “camping trip” was spent at home with friends and family. Sleeping bags littered the floor as friends and family tended to his final needs. Andy was employed at Overhead Door Atlanta, where he enjoyed many friendships with colleagues who regularly checked on him during his illness. He previously worked with Hitachi Telecom (USA), Inc. in Norcross, GA. He was a graduate of Art Institute of Atlanta and took business courses at Georgia State. Andy was an athlete, participating in bicycle races and triathlons. He was a 1996 Olympic Torchbearer, carrying the torch on a bicycle from Athens to Dahlonega. He also participated in an Olympic bicycle time trial event in Concord, NC, a qualifying event for the Olympic team. He participated in 27 Peachtree Road Races, including the 2018 event which he walked with his dad after his cancer diagnosis. Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11 am at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 5100 S. Old Peachtree Rd, Peachtree Corners, Georgia 30092, followed by refreshments and camaraderie at Berkeley Lake Chapel, 4043 S Berkeley Lake Rd., NW, Berkeley Lake, GA 30096. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church or Amedisys Hospice.
