Obituary for Janet Pizio Keenan

Janet Pizio Keenan of Suwanee, GA died peacefully and comfortably at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday February 2, 2019 at the age of 72.

Janet is survived by her Husband of 22 years, Raymond M. “Doc” Keenan; Daughter Mary Anne Przestrzelski Gilbert (43), Son-In-Law Daniel Gilbert (39), Grandchildren Stephen (10) and Matthew Gilbert (8) of Lawrenceville, GA; Son Michael Przestrzelski (47) and Grandson Michael (MJ) Stanton (7) of Lafayette, NY; Stepson Andrew R. Keenan (45) and Daughter-In-Law Jenifer N. Keenan (46) and Grandchildren Charlotte (12) and Penelope (11) Keenan of Atlanta, GA; Stepdaughter Cynthia Elliott (43) and Son-In-LawChris Elliot (40) and Grandchildren Emily Greene (18), Kyle Greene (17), Lauren Greene (13), Grace Elliot (6) and Reid Elliot (1) of Canton, GA; Stepdaughter Katherine Greer (40) and Grandchildren Andrew Greer (13) and William Greer (10) of Acworth, GA; Sister Marsha Pizio Cooke and family of Jamesville, NY; Sister Doris Pizio of Fayetteville, NY; Brother David Pizio and family of East Syracuse, NY. Janet is preceded in death by her parents Albert D. and Mary E. (Goodrich) Pizio, her son John Przestrzelski, and Sister Sharon Pizio Brown.

Janet was born on October 13th, 1946 in Syracuse, NY to Albert D. and Mary E. (Goodrich) Pizio. She was the eldest of 5 children. The Pizio family owned and managed restaurants throughout Janet’s life including the very popular chain of Pizio’s Drive-Ins in Syracuse, DeWitt, and Inlet NY and multiple locations all over Florida; and in more recent years, Captain Ahab’s Seafood & Steak in DeWitt, NY. Janet graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Education. She lived in Clemson, South Carolina for several years where she taught adult education and raised her three children John, Michael, and Mary Anne. Following a move back to her native Syracuse, NY, she worked in the family restaurant business and continued teaching adult education in DeWitt, NY. On May 31st, 1985, her eldest son John died in a car accident in DeWitt at the age of 17. In 1996, Janet married Raymond Keenan in Syracuse and shortly thereafter the two moved to Atlanta, GA. Janet and Ray have lived in Suwanee, GA for the past 22 years, spending time with friends, family and the 12 Grandchildren they share.

Janet’s family and friends remember her as a kind, thoughtful and fun person whose favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. Janet is well known for her green thumb and marvelouscooking skills, which her and Ray truly enjoyed doing together.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home for local Georgia family and friends. Crowell Brothers Funeral Home is located 201 Morningside Drive, Buford, GA 30518.

A funeral service followed by burial will be held in DeWitt, NY where Janet will be laid to rest next tp her deceased Son John. Details on the DeWitt services will follow.
