Obituary for Joseph Badi Murad

In Loving Memory

Joseph Murad was the eldest of 5, born and raised in Lebanon, into a modest family. Starting at a very young age, Joe’s ambition shined as he strived for success while determined to care for his family. “Aim high and make it happen” was not only the advice he would give to the people that surrounded him, but the words he would lead by example with. “No is not an answer”, he would always say. With an extreme amount of focus, dedication, hard work and persistence he excelled beyond the aggressive goals and challenges he set for himself.

Joe knew the importance of education as a means to one day have a better life for himself. He stayed focused and excelled in school and college. While he was studying at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon he had received numerous scholarships to very notable schools in the US, and ultimately decided to accept scholarship from Georgia Institute of Technology.

He came to United States in 1975, the year a Civil War erupted in Lebanon. He was always concerned about his family back home. Joe graduated with dual Master in EE and Applied Math from Georgia Tech. He also ultimately succeeded in bringing his mother, 3 brothers, and sister to the United States.

Joe was a true business man. In his early career days he was a computer application programmer, and quickly moved up the ranks into management positions. He was forever a philomath and entrepreneur. He spearheaded and pioneered the Atlanta Options Club, Asset Investment Management LLC, and was also a Georgia Tech Graduate Level Derivative Security Professor. Joe was a very passionate man and had many hobbies - he was fluent in many languages (he was most recently learning Russian), he enjoyed the art of baking French pastries, woodworking, and acrylic painting.

Joe was always looking for opportunities to help those around him in need. He had a gift of pulling out the best in people, and having those he loved “raise their bar of expectation” on themselves. And most importantly, he would do anything in his power to help those achieve their goals.

He was an incredible visionary. He loved to dream big, and make his dreams happen. He transformed neglected land in North Georgia into the Murad family Orchard, 10 acres with abundant fruit trees and vegetables. It was his lifelong dream, and his verbalized “Legacy”, to bring his entire extended family together to share his abundant gifts.

Joseph B. Murad passed away on March 4th, 2019 at the age of 67. His legacy will forever live on.
