Obituary for Paul Francis Coyne

Paul F. Coyne of Peachtree Corners, GA passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. He was 65 years old.

Paul was born on April 28, 1953, in Darby, PA to Andrew Joseph Coyne and Mary (McCarthy) Coyne. He graduated from Cardinal O’Hare High School in Springfield, PA in 1971. He graduated from Norwich University with a B.A. in Corporate Psychology in 2002 and from Union Institute and University with a M.A. in Psychology and Counseling in 2005.

Paul was married in 1973 to Shelley (McCole) Coyne of Duluth, GA and has one surviving daughter, Heather Michelle Coyne, along with granddaughters Elizabeth and Phoebe, of Duluth, GA.

On August 2, 1986, Paul married his surviving wife, Pamela (Lawrance) Coyne, and has two surviving sons, Jacob Lawrance Coyne and wife Wendy, along with granddaughters Savannah, Hailey, and Aubrey, of Peachtree Corners, GA; Jesse Brennen Coyne and wife Stephanie, along with granddaughter Annie and grandson Logan, of Madison, GA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Paul worked as a production coordinator for Scientific Atlanta in Doraville, GA for 10 years, before taking a similar job with General Electric in Suwanee, GA for 8 years. He began working for HVB AE Power Systems, Inc. in 1997 as an operations manager and retired in 2010. After receiving his Master’s degree in psychology, he began developing a career in addiction counseling. He did his internship at Ridgeview Institute in Smyrna, GA.

Paul was deeply invested in the local community. For several years, he was a youth baseball coach at Northeast Athletics Association in Doraville. He announced football games for Norcross High School while his sons were there, and he volunteered for several local political campaigns. With 33 years of sobriety, he sponsored and counseled several individuals through Alcoholics Anonymous. He cared strongly about animal rights. He volunteered at the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter and went everywhere with Libby, his certified service dog. He also volunteered for the Norcross Citizens’ Police Academy, and after 9/11, he joined the Georgia State Defense Force until his retirement as a Second Lieutenant. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who came into contact with him.
